Obituary of Sarah Fox

Sarah Elizabeth Fox (Stern) died peacefully in her home on January 4, 2017, surrounded by loved ones. She was born in Munkacs, Ukraine in 1917, the daughter of David and Rachel Leah Wettenstein, sister of Malvin Braunfeld and widow of Elmer Stern. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend. "Mamala," as she was affectionately known by her family, extended family and many friends, was a keeper of the faith, holocaust survivor and keen observer of human nature in a turbulent century. She was an astute businesswoman who worked until her final days and never left home unless impeccably groomed. She spoke five languages, including a perfect classical Hebrew, which was a point of great pride. She was terror at the craps table, a serial investigator of the romantic intentions of her young friends and a true loyalist to those she loved. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Chet and Anne Stern, her granddaughter Rachel Stern and her nieces Eva Kelenyi and Lili Frankel, who will keep her incredible spirit alive. Graveside, Friday, 11:00am, Mt. Nebo Cemetery. A gathering to follow at her home 611 S. Harrison Lane, Denver CO 80209. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the US Holocaust Museum in Washington DC.
