Obituary of Dorothy Lapin

Dorothy “Sue” Lapin, lifetime Denver resident, died on March 1, 2017. Sue was born on November 11, 1919, to Jake and Edna Sieglbaum and enjoyed a colorful childhood on the Denver west side, where she was active in the Jewish community. Sue gave up her dream of going to law school after learning in a conversation with one of the first women attorneys in Colorado that she would likely be relegated to the work of clerk in a male dominated profession. She married William Lapin in 1939, raised three sons and was an active participant in the west side Jewish community. As a member in the Hebrew Educational Alliance and President of Mizrachi, she hosted women of note, including Golda Meir, former Prime Minister of Israel, who lived on Denver’s west side as a teenager, and Eleanor Roosevelt, when they visited Denver. Sue is survived by three sons: Eugene Lapin (Margaret), James Lapin (Juli), and Gary Lapin (Fran); eight grandsons: Adrian Johnson, Michael Lapin (Kari), Kevin Lapin (Debbie Gerressu), James Lapin (Ann), Jeremy Lapin (Myla), Jesse Lapin (Kristina), W. Blaine Lapin (Danielle Guttman-Lapin), and John Lapin; and twelve great-grandchildren: Tyler, Micah, Kaia, Ethan, Willa, Nikodmos, Raphael, Gavriella, Sarit, Avraham, Dovan, and Eliana. Sue’s sister, Renee Singer, remains an active volunteer for Jewish Family Services and in the cultural life of Denver. Sue will always be admired for her independence, courage, honesty and as one of the most colorful story-tellers. Her family is incredibly appreciative of the loving and patient attention of her recent caregivers. Graveside service at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Nebo on March 5, 2017. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to The Denver Hospice.
