Mike and I spent summers building and flying model airplanes. Mike was always a a caring and compassionate. We saw each other only occasionally after Washington high school, but always could chat about the many things we had in common. My condolences to his family, He was a great friend as we grew up!

I wanted to be there today however the weather didn’t permit. My love and condolences to you all. Mike lived with Don and I for a year in the 80’s while going through a divorce. He was like a brother and dear friend combined to both of us. And…he made the best steaks! Don and Mike kept in touch by email and telephone and Mike sent me a birthday e-card every year until last couple of years. I’ve thought often about our visit to Savannah a few years ago and the day we spent with Mike and the lovely breakfast we had the following morning with Mike, Jennifer and two of his granddaughters. I will continue to remember the good times with him and my dear Don. I love you all. Sharon Waknin

My deepest condolences to Julie, Jay, Jennifer, and the rest of the family. I have wonderful memories of Mike and I working together in the pawnshop along with my brother, Mike loved jazz and I attended some concerts with him and others at the Paramount theater. We would each pick different stations to listen to at the pawnshop where Mike would pick jazz and I would pick rock ‘n’ roll and Gary would go back-and-forth between the two. Mike and I also were able to share memories of working at Gart brothers, although we were there about six years apart. You will be missed my friend. David Karner

Condolences to Julie, Jay, Jennifer and family. I have many fond memories of working with Mike in the Pawn Shop. Also, our many years sailing with the Koralle-Zef sailing club. Having never sailed before, it led to many interesting adventures. He will be missed.

I met Mike Strear and Anna Jo in 1982 when I became the crew for Duane Duff with the Koralle Zef sailing fleet which raced on summer Tuesday evenings at Cherry Creek Reservoir. Mike's favorite thing to do for the fleet was purchase the trophies for the annual banquet and hand them out to the winners. Here is one he is giving to Joel and Lois Jurgens. He was indeed a gentle soul who immersed himself in everything he did.
