Obituary of Lillian E. Safran
Lillian (Ecker) Safran passed away on January 28, 2025, age 88.
She was born in New York City to Hungarian immigrants Margaret (Locsey-Tambor) Ecker, a homemaker, and Joseph Ecker, a barber and an entrepreneur who owned his own barber shop on 28th Street in NYC. She grew up in the Bronx and Forest Hill, attended Queens College, and received a degree in Education. She taught second grade at Tesago Elementary in the Shenendehowa Central School District before pivoting, later in life, to teaching English as a second language to adults.
Lillian was married for 61 years to Herbert B. Safran, who died in 2017 at age 84. They lived together in Florida; Fort Dix, NJ; Latham and then Clifton Park, NY; Richmond, VA; Cherry Hill, NJ; Smithville, NJ; and Newton, MA. They raised three children: Linda (Adam), Alan (Dana), and Laurie (Jim), who gave them six grandchildren: Sarah (Tim), Rachel (Daniel), Alison, Michael, Josiah, Caroline.
In 2022 Lillian moved to Westminster, CO, so she could enjoy being near Laurie, Jim, Sarah, Rachel, and her three great-grandchildren (Brooks, Ava, Blair) in her final years. She is also survived by her sister, Evelyn Nesor (Harvey) of Portland, CT.
Funeral services will be in Newton, MA.
May her memory be for a blessing.
