Obituary of Benjamin Franklin Napheys

Benjamin Franklin Napheys, age 66, of Denver, Colorado, passed away unexpectedly on February 10, 2025.

Ben was a graduate of Poudre High School in Fort Collins, Colorado State University, and later earned his master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Denver.

Driven by his sharp mind and intellectual curiosity, he was a lifelong lover of technology. Ben built a successful career in the tech industry before retiring last year from Denver Public Schools.

He had an adventurous spirit and a deep appreciation for the outdoors. Summers were often spent in Evergreen at the beloved family cabin, and winters found him on the slopes. An exceptionally talented skier, Ben raced for the Winter Park Freestyle Ski Team in his youth. He also had a passion for scuba diving and spent many vacations in Belize with lifelong friends.

Beyond his love for adventure, Ben was known for his kindness, curiosity, and enthusiasm for the world around him.

Above all, he cherished time with his children. Living just a few houses away from Lauren, they enjoyed long walks with Nala, bike rides around Wash Park, and countless dinners on the patio. He had recently returned from an unforgettable week with Alex, exploring New York City. He was always there for them.

Ben is survived by his children, Lauren Napheys and Alex Napheys; his siblings, Annie Vandenberg (Victor), Nancy Napheys (Skip), and Danny Napheys; and his parents, Jean Waitman and Benjamin Napheys.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A celebration of life will be held at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science on Sunday, March 16th, at 3:00 PM. Please enter through the Ricketson Auditorium Evening Entrance on the west side of the museum. All are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Denver East High School’s robotics club, Angelbotics, where Ben enjoyed volunteering.
