Obituary of Henry Joseph Beckwitt

Henry Joseph Beckwitt, a long-time resident of Cherry Hills Village, Colorado, passed away peacefully with family by his side, on March 10th, 2025, at the age of 94. Born on July 13th, 1930, in Brooklyn, New York, Henry grew up during the depression, working on his family farm and eventually earning enough money for college, ultimately leading to an illustrious career in medicine and a lifelong dedication to his family and community.

Henry received a BA from Rutgers University and an MD from New York University followed by fellowships in cardiology, pulmonary disease and internal medicine.  While he was a resident at Bellevue Hospital, he met the love of his life, Ann, who was working as a nurse in the Intensive Care Unit for premature babies, which marked the beginning of a wonderful life together.

Henry was involved in pioneering research in the development of heart catheterizations at General Rose Hospital. He also served as a captain and physician in the Airforce, a testament to his dedication and service to his country.  His professional life was complemented by his private practice work at St. Anthony's and Beth Israel Hospital, where he impacted countless lives with his skill and compassion.

Beyond his professional achievements, Henry found immense joy and fulfillment through his involvement as a singer with the Colorado Chorale. His passion for music was matched only by his love for travel, as he and Ann explored over 75 countries and almost 400 cities across the globe over the last 35 years.

Henry will be remembered fondly for his kindness and unwavering love for his family, alongside a sharp wit that could bring a smile with a well-timed joke. These qualities endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Henry leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, cherished by his wife Ann. His spirit continues to live on through his brother Steve, his children Bob, Rick, Wendi, and Marc, his nine grandchildren Colin, Elisabeth, Jack, Cassidy, Callum, Finlay, Lily, Nick and Ally and his great grandson Christian, all of whom he supported with boundless dedication and love.

“Our father was wholly committed to our happiness, working tirelessly to support us throughout our lives. He fell in love with our mom nearly 70 years ago, a love story that has inspired everyone they touched.”

We invite family and friends to join us at a celebration of Henry's life at Mount Nebo Memorial Park on March 13th at 1:30pm. As we say goodbye, let us remember the remarkable journey of a beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, and honor the indelible impact Henry Joseph Beckwitt had on our lives and the world around him. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Colorado Symphony and Colorado Chorale.
