Obituary of Mollie Newman
Newman, Mollie
Mollie Newman, 81, died peacefully at home with the incredible support of hospice and Colorado’s Medical Aid in Dying {MAiD}.
Mollie was born June 3, 1943, in St. Joseph, MO, the daughter of Nate Saferstein and Adele Pitluck Saferstein. She began work as a legal secretary in Denver where she found her true love, Jay Newman, on a blind date almost 60 years ago. Mollie and Jay married in 1966. Mollie was an incredible mother while continuing her career as a professional proofreader for court reporters, then became the proofreader for the non-profit organization, Colorado Group to Alleviate Smoking Pollution (GASP). Her skills continued, so logically she was tapped to be the editor of the Temple Sinai newsletter for many years. Some of her writings were published in scholastic journals and a piece found its way onto the pages of the Wall Street Journal.
Mollie was an avid reader; however, it needed to be quality literature to hold her interest and attention. You would most likely find her deep in the work of her favorite author, Philip Roth.
Mollie is survived by her husband, Jay Newman, her two sons, Adam and Noah Newman, beloved granddaughters Jackie and Nina Newman, and her sister Lynne (Steve) Glasgow of Charlotte, NC. She is also survived by Sherry Newman, widow of Jay’s brother Michael, of Encino, CA.
Mollie elected to further medical research and benefit society by donating her body to the Colorado State Anatomical Board on the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. The family has chosen to honor her wishes not to have a memorial service at this time.
