Obituary of Harold "Hal" Birenboim

Dr. Harold “Hal” Birenboim was born in Kansas City on May 28, 1931. A standout student, he graduated high school at age 16 before attending Washington University and medical school in Missouri and Kansas. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy as a ship’s doctor in the seas of Japan and Asia (he had many memories from this experience). This was followed by a Fellowship in Endocrinology at U. of Colorado Medical School.

Hal leaves behind his wife Marcey, his son Aaron (Sherie Pennebaker), his stepsons Jeff Greene (Shay) and Eric Greene (Nancy), 5 grandchildren and 5 nieces. He is preceded in death by his daughter Devra Birenboim and sisters Rosalie Milens and Lillian Baker. He was a loving husband, treasured father and grandfather. He was wise, caring, fun-loving and a tremendous role model for the entire family. He loved sharing all of his experiences with family and friends.

He had a decades-long medical practice in the Denver area, where he positively impacted the lives of countless patients and their families.  He was as devoted and caring a doctor as he was a family man.

Hal had a love not only for his family and his patients, but also for life. He was a world traveler, lifelong learner, a tennis player and hiker. He was a dog lover, food lover, music lover and had a great sense of humor. For all of these things, but mainly for his caring, he will be greatly missed.
