Obituary of Monroe I. Levine
Colonel (Ret.) Dr. Monroe I. Levine, MD, age 88, was born on June 6, 1936 in Brooklyn New York. Monroe was a proud graduate of Virginia Military Institute and the NYU Grossman School of Medicine. He completed his residency at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Monroe began his 20 plus year military career after his graduation from medical school. He was chief of orthopedic surgery at the 2nd surgical hospital in Vietnam as well as a brigade surgeon in the 82nd Airborne Division. He was a Professor Emeritus at the Medical College of Georgia where an endowed chair was named for him (Musculoskeletal Oncology Endowment Chair). Monroe was preceded in death by his parents, David and Eva (née Krakow) Levine (z”l), and his sister and brother in law, Bernard and Janice Aron (z”l). He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Celinda Levine (nee Miltenberger); his children Scott Levine, Dr. Emily (David Cantor) Levine; Sarabeth Levine Salzman; and David (Dr Katy Manseau) Levine. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Eva Joy, Naomi & Niko Levine, Anya Cantor and Asher & Noam Salzman. Monroe is also survived by his brother and sister in law Christina and John Doren; his loving nieces and nephew, Amanda (William) Clemons, Rabbi Melanie (Dr. Michael Dine) Aron and Mark (Elizabeth) Aron along with great nieces and nephews and a great niece and nephew.
A celebration of life is taking place at Congregation Har Hashem in Boulder CO on Tuesday, May 13th at 5:00pm. A livestream will be available on Congregation Har Hashem's YouTube channel.
Shiva will be held on Wednesday, May 14th from 3:00pm – 7:00pm at the home of the Levine Residence, 3019 W. 111th Drive, Westminster CO, 80031.
