Obituary of Bruce Ogin

On May 10th, 2025, Bruce Ogin departed this world peacefully at the age of 82. His brilliant mind and boundless heart came to rest following complications from two recent falls. Born in Brooklyn, New York, on February 11th, 1943, Bruce cultivated a life as rich, generous, and vibrant as the gardens he so lovingly nurtured.

From a young age, Bruce was guided by curiosity, conviction, and an unwavering sense of purpose. He earned his undergraduate degree from Brooklyn College in 1964, followed by a medical degree from Kansas City University in 1968. In 1971, after completing his anesthesia training in Michigan, Bruce began a devoted and fulfilling medical career — first at the U.S. Army Hospital in Okinawa, and then for many decades at Rose Medical Center in Denver, where his calm presence and compassionate care touched countless lives.

Bruce’s greatest achievement was the life he built with his beloved wife, Sandi (Strauss), whom he married in 1966. Together, they raised three cherished children, nurturing them with wisdom, kindness, and unconditional love.

Bruce’s spirit bloomed with passion and purpose. He served his community as President of both the Denver B’nai B’rith Chapter and the Denver Optimist Club, always leading with conviction. A committed environmentalist, he supported many causes aimed at protecting the planet he so deeply respected.

Even in retirement, Bruce never slowed down. A gifted investor and financial planner, he continued to seek knowledge and embrace new challenges. Yet, it was alongside Sandi that he felt most alive. Their love story spanned six decades and countless adventures: road trips with their young family, cycling through the Rockies, hiking in Europe, and, in later years, cruises to distant shores. Whether on a mountaintop or a ship’s deck, they explored the world hand in hand. Not a day passed where Bruce didn't remind his wife and family of his undying love for his dear and adored Sandi.

Though he could be stubborn, impatient, and sure of stance, Bruce lived by a deep moral compass — with integrity, generosity, honesty, and a love that radiated through every facet of his life. His presence was grounding; his convictions inspiring, and he brought so much goodness to all those who knew him. He was truly a good man.

He leaves behind a legacy that lives on in his adored wife Sandi; his three children — Dr. Barry Ogin (Dr. Grace Cheng), Shara Ogin (Frank Kuehnel), and Brett Ogin — and in the next generation: Kendall Ogin, Brandon Ogin, and Auria Ogin-Kuehnel. Each carries forward a spark of his legacy through his humor, his wisdom, and his love.

Service, Tuesday, 5/13, 11:00am, Temple Emanuel, 51 Grape Street; interment Emanuel Cemetery; a livestream will be available on Feldman Mortuary's YouTube channel.

In Bruce’s memory, contributions may be made to Temple Emanuel of Denver, Jewish Family Services, Denver Hospice, or to any environmental organization whose mission would have made him smile. May we all carry the spirit of Bruce Ogin, by living as he did—with grace in our steps, heart in our actions, and meaning in every moment.
