Obituary of George Roger Hoffman

1946 – 2025

George Roger Hoffman, a devoted husband, proud father, joyful grandfather, and compassionate attorney, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2025, in Denver, Colorado. He was 79.

Born on June 22, 1946 in Baltimore, Maryland, George lived a full and vibrant life marked by integrity, generosity, and a sharp, unmistakable wit. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon Hoffman (nee Resnick) and their three sons, Justin, David, and Jarrett Hoffman. He also leaves behind two cherished grandchildren, Luke and Marlowe Hoffman, who brought him endless joy and pride. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Sylvia Resnick, in-laws, Steven and Dottie Resnick, and Wendy and Michael Lansing. He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph Hoffman, parents, Reuben and Bessie Hoffman, and his father-in-law Martin M. Resnick.

George built a career as a respected and accomplished attorney and was known for his steadfast commitment to justice. He often represented clients with limited means, dedicating countless hours to pro bono work to ensure that everyone had access to fair representation. His clients knew him as principled and kind; his colleagues respected him as a man of deep conviction.

If you were lucky enough to sit at George’s table, you knew to expect depth. Conversation moved fast, covering everything from world affairs to philosophy, and always came with a generous pour from a thoughtfully curated bottle of wine from his cellar. An evening with George was equal parts therapy session and stand-up comedy—a reflection of his boundless curiosity and dry, quick-witted humor.

Outside of his career, George was a man of many passions. He found joy on the golf course, exhilaration on ski slopes, and peace by the water with a fishing rod in hand. A typical day might include bike rides, tennis matches, cheering on the O’s, or preparing a carefully crafted Indian meal. He loved music from his era—its rhythms and lyrics often playing in the background as he filled his home with warmth and laughter. He also had a remarkable vocabulary and a gift for language, always selecting the precise word to make a point, or punchline land just right.

To know George was to admire him. He lived with quiet strength, loved fiercely, gave generously, and never took himself too seriously. His legacy lives on in the values he instilled in his family, the many lives he touched, and the stories shared by those who knew him.

The family wishes to give special thanks to Jenni Dill, who loved George deeply, and who provided unique experiences that brought him abundant joy. Special appreciation also goes to Darby Kucinski for her gentle, loving and devoted care.  Additionally the family expresses their gratitude to the many caregivers who kindly supported George each day, along with the compassionate Berkley Hospice team.
