Obituary of Eleanore Foonberg
Eleanore Levine Foonberg, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at 2:28 a.m. on July 15, 2025, at the age of 84.
Born on January 22, 1941, in New York, Eleanore moved to California at the age of 14 and spent most of her life in Beverly Hills. She devoted herself wholeheartedly to raising her family and creating a warm, loving home—a place filled with joy, support, and unconditional love.
Eleanore is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Harold; her cherished children Julie, Dana (and her husband Brad), and Michael (and his wife Yuliana); and her six beloved grandchildren: Ashley, Joey, Amanda, Madilynne, Asher, and Gavin. She is also survived by her sister Wilma and several nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss her deeply.
A woman of great compassion and generosity, Eleanore was passionately philanthropic throughout her life. She was a founding member of The Associates at the Jewish Home for the Aging (now Los Angeles Jewish Health), typed books for The Braille Institute, and volunteered with USC to support anonymous drug testing programs in Los Angeles schools. Her charitable heart touched countless lives through her support of numerous Jewish and community organizations.
Eleanore was known for her elegant presence, her extraordinary knitting skills, her daily walks with friends, and the joy she found dancing with her beloved Harold. Her warmth, humor, and steadfast love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 17th at 2:30 p.m. at Mount Sinai Chapel, Mount Sinai Hollywood Hills.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Eleanore’s memory to the Los Angeles Jewish Health, the Alzheimer’s Association, or a charity of your choice.
Shiva will be held at 942 South Franklin St Denver, CO 80209 on Monday, July 21 from 4pm - 8pm
