Obituary of Kim Robert Grice

Kim Robert Grice

April 6, 1948 – August 22, 2025

With great sadness, the family of Kim Robert Grice announces his sudden passing on the evening of Friday, August 22, 2025, at the age of 77. Kim died peacefully after attending a high school football game coached by his eldest son.

Born in Caro, Michigan, on April 6, 1948, Kim was the first child of Acita and Arold Grice.

During the height of the Vietnam War, Kim volunteered for the draft and proudly served in the United States Army until 1969. As a member of the 3rd Battalion, 11th Infantry Regiment, he was gravely wounded in the Battle of Chu Moor Mountain and awarded the Purple Heart. Kim often spoke of how his life was spared during that firefight by a Gideon’s Bible he carried in his breast pocket, a moment he credited as a powerful testament to the Lord’s presence.

After returning home, Kim married Mary Sue Rohloff of Reese, Michigan, in 1970. He went on to complete a Bachelor of Arts degree at Michigan State University in 1973 before moving to Westminster, Colorado, where he would build a full and impactful life.

In 1974, he started his first business, Karo Carpet Cleaning, followed by a career in real estate that began in 1975. He went on to establish Best Western Realty, launching a career that spanned five decades and reflected his entrepreneurial spirit and perseverance.

Beyond his career, Kim loved the outdoors. He found joy in road trips through the Rocky Mountains, fishing, camping, kayaking, and hiking. He also traveled widely throughout the United States and Europe. In the 1980s, Kim became an environmental activist, playing a key role in the fight to close the Rocky Flats nuclear weapons manufacturing facility near Golden, Colorado.

He is survived by his loving wife and partner, LeiAnna Roup; his brother, Trent Grice; his sister, Lynette Trudeau; his three children: Troy Grice, Rodney Grice, and April Thompson; and his five beloved grandchildren: Sienna, Grady, Avalee, Tayden, and Josiah.

Kim will be remembered for his devoted faith to Christ, time in prayer and love of worship; his unfiltered honesty; and his fierce independence. His life was marked by service, resourcefulness, and love—a legacy that will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
