Obituary of Karin Simon

Karin Evangeline Simon passed away peacefully on September 18, 2025, surrounded by family and friends. She was deeply loved by her four children and twelve grandchildren, and she always maintained a spirit of love, kindness, compassion, and optimism.

Karin enjoyed being a mother and a grandmother, and she was especially close to her grandchildren. She had a love of music and art, proudly displaying her family photos and artwork throughout her home. As a teacher and an artist, one could always find her enjoying an art project with her preschool students or, later in life, helping her grandchildren with a spontaneous painting session in the playroom she thoughtfully put together at her beloved “Stapleton” home.

She was also a member of the art committee that selected public sculptures and artwork for some of the open spaces for the Central Park neighborhood (formerly known as Stapleton) during its early stages of development.

Karin was born in Madison, Wisconsin, on April 1, 1940, to Vivian and Van R. Potter. She had two brothers, John and Toby Potter. She attended the University of Wisconsin, where she earned her undergraduate and master’s degrees. Karin became a teacher by profession and an artist. She eventually moved to Boulder, Colorado, with her former husband and then settled in Denver to be closer to her daughter, Eleanora, and her son, Jeremy.

She is survived by her two brothers, her four children (Josh, Jeremy, Eleanora and Jesse), and her twelve grandchildren.

Graveside Service was held Monday, Sept. 22, at 11:45 am, at Emanuel Cemetery.
