Obituary of Phyllis Wenig

Phyllis Wenig (née Cantor), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on November 5, 2025 peacefully surrounded by her family. She was born on October 4, 1943, to Samuel and Beatrice Cantor in the Bronx, New York, and raised in Lake Worth, Florida, the second of five siblings — Alan, Diane, Andrew, and Larry.

In 1965, while working at a Catskills resort, the Stevensville, Phyllis met the love of her life, Eden Wenig. The two married on July 16, 1967, beginning a lifelong partnership full of devotion, laughter, and adventure. Together, they built a life that took them from New York to New Jersey, Bermuda, Texas, and the Colorado mountains ultimately retiring in Denver, Colorado, to be near their son, Matthew, and his family.  They recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary.

In her 30s, Phyllis returned to college and earned a degree in computer programming, then went on to work for more than 15 years as a mainframe computer programmer for BASF, Hermann Hospitals and Shell Oil. Her dedication, intelligence, and joy of learning and solving puzzles inspired those around her.

Phyllis was a prolific reader, always found with a book in hand. She loved playing mahjong, sharing good times with friends, and found quiet joy and creativity in needlepoint, jigsaw puzzles and wherever there was a problem that needed help in solving.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Eden; her sons, Matthew (of Denver, CO) and his wife, Courtney, and Steven (of Portland, OR) and his wife, Alexandra; her cherished grandchildren, Noah, Samuel, Gabe and Abigail; her step-grandchildren, Jamison and Roxanne; and her four siblings, Diane, Andrew, Alan, and Larry. She treasured time spent with her grandchildren and step-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy.

Phyllis’s warmth, intelligence, and kindness touched everyone she met. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives she enriched.
