Obituary of Alan Robert Kris
Alan Robert Kris passed away peacefully on November 13, 2025, at the age of 90, surrounded by his family.
Born on August 20, 1935, in Minneapolis, Alan was the son of Martha and Harry Kris. He grew up in Minneapolis alongside his older sister Lorayne. During his early years he grew up under the loving watch of his grandmother and extended family.
At the age of 15, Alan moved with his family to Denver, where his father joined his brother in operating Kris Upholstery. That move would change the course of Alan’s life. He attended East High School, where he met Gloria Maslin, who would become his high school and college sweetheart, and later his wife. They were married on March 22, 1959, and built a lifelong partnership that lasted 57 years until Gloria’s passing in 2017.
Alan attended the University of Colorado, the University of Denver, and later the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin.
Alan served in the U.S. Army before embarking on a long and distinguished career in banking. His professional journey culminated in his leadership as President and Chairman of First National Banks, which he helped build, grow, and ultimately sell. He was widely respected in the banking community and served as President of the Colorado Bankers Association, among other leadership roles.
In retirement, Alan and Gloria enjoyed a full and joyful life – traveling the world, playing golf, tennis and spending sunny days in Arizona with family and friends.
Alan’s greatest and most enduring legacy is his family. He is survived by his children Vicki (David) Goldman, Steve (Elizabeth) Kris, and Gary (Lydia) Kris, and his beloved grandchildren Corey, Marissa, Kaley, Allison, Owen and Milo.
