Obituary of Elizabeth Lena Goodman
Elizabeth Lena Goodman, 96, passed away December 5th at her assisted living facility in Greeley, CO. She was born March 4, 1929, in Seipstown, Pennsylvania to Arthur and Florence Haas. She was the middle child of five siblings.
After graduating in 1947 from South Whitehall high school in Allentown, PA, she enrolled in Allentown Hospital School of Nursing. Shortly after her graduation, she joined the United States Air Force Nurse’s Corp and achieved the level of captain. She was stationed at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, Colorado. There she met her husband of 61 years, Gerald Goodman. Once married and out of the air force, she moved with her husband to Greeley in 1955. There she worked as a nurse in the hospital that was to become today’s Banner Health. In 1958 she had her first child and became a full-time mother; two children followed. Then in 1973 she returned to the outside workforce and started a new security business with her husband which was to become DictoGuard Security Alarm Systems.
She retired in 1993 and moved to Sun City West, AZ where she enjoyed her time cross stitching, working in the yard, golfing, volunteering, and socializing with friends. In 2021 she returned to Colorado to be near her children.
She was very active in the Jewish community both in Colorado at Beth Israel Congregation and in Arizona at Temple Beth Shalom where she volunteered her time on numerous projects and committees.
She is survived by her three children, Julie (Mark) Slack of Castle Rock, Jeff (Ruth) Goodman of Windsor, and Babe (Zvi) Goodman of Greeley; and seven grandchildren, Joseph Moya, Abby Jacobs, Gabe Goodman, Ben Goodman, Tali Bitton, Ori Bitton, and Zac Bitton; and four great-grandchildren, along with many other loving nieces, nephews, and relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gerald Goodman, parents, sisters June Syzdek and Marlyn Beitler, and brothers Willard Haas and Sherwood Haas.
Chapel service will be held on Sunday, December 7th at 9 AM at Feldman Mortuary Chapel, 1673 York Street, Denver, CO, followed by Interment at Rose Hill Cemetery, 6841 E 62nd Ave, Commerce City, CO. A reception will follow at Eagle Pointe Recreation Center, 6060 Parkway Dr, Commerce City, CO.
