He was very kind Doctor but also human being. My mother Diane Pacheco also worked here at DH and when she went into kidney failure, he was one of her doctors. I also liked his sense of humor. I am sure he'll be missed.

I learned of Stu’s passing here in San Diego, where for many years I looked forward to his enthusiastic, optimistic, energetic annual talks at our ongoing education meeting. Whether I saw him at ASN or here he was always generous with his time, advice, and guidance. He was a great scientist and leader, and yet was approachable and welcoming. A true mensch. I will miss him. Dena Rifkin

Dr. Linas ("Robin, you have GOT to stop calling me 'Dr. Linas'"!) was my first attending on my very first rotation as a brand new intern. On call at Denver Health my very first day as a 'real doc', I was sure I'd never make it. But I was lucky enough to have Stu Linas at the helm and he encouraged me, taught me, and continued to mentor me for the next decades of my career. All these years later, I always knew I could pick up the phone and call him with a question. He was a constant example of how to be not just a good doc but a compassionate comfort to his patients and an amazing teacher to his students, residents and colleagues. I sure will miss his smile, his humor, and his support. Rest in peace, my teacher and my friend, and thank you for all you have done for so many of us.

I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Linas for many years at Denver Health. As a Dietitian, he was always supportive and kind to our clinical team and always more than willing (and happy) to answer any questions we had related to the kidneys. He came and spoke with our RD team this last year to share his amazing knowledge regarding fluid and sodium balance; everyone appreciated his enthusiasm and humor. I always enjoyed encountering him in the hospital -- hallways, cafeteria, patient care areas -- his friendly presence and kindness (to all) will be greatly missed. I am a better clinician for knowing and working with him and he will always be remembered as a beacon of Denver Health.

Hi Trudi---
We just heard about Stu’s passing. It is truly hard to express how seriously that has affected me. Stu and I go back together all the way to 1957 (even before you two happily connected), when he and I started 7th grade at Pimlico Junior High School. I remember fondly the many times spent with Stu, his parents and sister Ann at his Everton Road home (his mother was like a second mother to me, always trying to get me to do the right thing) and the many wonderful times we had for 5 years as very close friends and classmates at Pimlico and City College and afterwards when we returned to Baltimore from our respective colleges.
We frequently communicated over the years (particularly, since the wonderful get-together of the “Baltimore Gang” in San Francisco). In fact, I had planned to call him soon to catch up on our personal and family happenings. In our last conversation, he was quite happy, being able to spend quality time with you and your kids + grandchildren, with his work (claiming he never could retire because he could not think about anything better he could do with his time) and with life in general.
It is wonderful that you have your kids and grandchildren around to comfort you during these trying times.
Lynn and I will be viewing tomorrow’s Memorial Service and will continue to think about and smile regarding the many great times we shared for almost 7 decades.
All our best,
Ron & Lynn Laupheimer

Stuart:
Life at Denver Health, the School of Medicine, and the Denver Tennis Club will be less joyful, less inclusive, less intelligent, and less humorous without you. You have taught us to live with pleasure and laughter, while confronting serious issues seriously. You are humble and self effacing, despite your superb accomplishments in medicine and medical education. Your only serious failure is your tennis game, which is, well, laughable. Next time around, let's have lunch more often, hit more tennis balls, and laugh even more. Forever grateful for our friendship, bill brown

I was fortunate to be able to have one month with Dr. Linas at Denver Health on my renal rotation as my attending physician. What an amazing teacher with such intellectual rigor! Sending condolences to his family.
