Obituary of Stuart Lee Linas
Stuart Linas, MD, beloved husband, father, grandfather, physician, mentor, and friend, died on Monday, January 19th 2026, leaving a legacy that spans family, medicine, and generations of physicians shaped by his wisdom and generosity.
Stuart was the devoted husband of Trudi, his partner for 57 years in all things that mattered. He was a proud and loving father to Ben, Keri, and Beth and a deeply adoring grandfather to Ava, Eloise, Violet, Sasha, Casper, and Orly, who brought him endless joy and whose lives will always carry his quiet strength.
The Rocky Mountain Professor of Renal Research at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, Stuart was a towering figure in academic medicine—not because he sought the spotlight, but because his intellect, integrity, and steadiness naturally drew people to him. He served with distinction as Treasurer of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), helping to guide one of medicine’s most important institutions with the same calm rigor he brought to his science and leadership.
Stuart was a mentor to hundreds of physicians, many of whom now lead clinical services, research laboratories, and mentoring programs across the world. He generated influence not by ambition, but through thoughtful questions, careful listening, and his unwavering belief in the people he guided. He taught medicine, but more importantly, he taught how to be a physician.
To his friends and colleagues, Stuart was a steady presence—a rock in the middle of turbulence and a light in the dark when clarity was hard to find. He had a gift for offering wisdom that was both simple and unforgettable. One of his favorites—“Open your eyes before your mouth”—was vintage Stu: practical and gently disarming, delivered with a knowing smile.
Stuart Linas lived a life of purpose, service, and quiet excellence. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the trainees he shaped, the institutions he strengthened, and the countless patients he helped by his work. May his memory always be a blessing to the people of Israel and to the entire world. Zichrono Livracha
