Norm was a class act. A constant presence on Lininger mountain, he always knew what was going on and always greeted us with a smile (and perhaps a dog treat). He had an easy going and casual presence. As a vegetarian, I was surprised to learn he and Marilyn had hands in starting Vegetarian Times. He was clearly someone who'd done things in life but wasn't particularly showy about it. You could maybe draw it out of him over a beer. He came to our assistance more times than we can recall and always did it so graciously. He was the only reason I ever voted in a fire district election. I voted how he told me. Not because of intimidation, but because of our shared values and his wisdom and experience. Perhaps we took for granted that he'd always be around? We're happy for the time that we took to chat and share our lives. His memory will live with us in our day to day, up on the mountain.
