Obituary of Byron Thomas Weiss
Byron Thomas “Whiz” Weiss passed away on March 17, 2026. He was 86 years old.
Byron was born in Denver on December 28, 1939. He attended elementary and junior high school in Denver Public Schools and was a proud graduate of East High School class of 1957. He went to the University of Boston for a year, then returned home to Colorado. He worked in the family record store on 16th Street and worked with his father in the salvage business before starting Porta Power Inc. in 1986. He owned and operated Porta Power Inc. for over 30 years, initially making all of the sales and deliveries of material handling equipment himself. He purchased the Denver Rock Drill property in 1993 because it was a good fit for Porta Power’s operations, and because he envisioned that, one day, the area would be redeveloped. Byron knew everyone in town and everyone knew him. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of all things Denver.
He is survived by his beloved sons, Brett and Andy. Everything that he did, he did for them. Byron was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Jeannette Weiss, and his brother, Chuck E Weiss.
