Obituary of Byron Shafer

Byron Alvin Shafer, age 87, son of Dave and Dorothy Shafer passed away peacefully on May 1, 2026 at his residence at the Suites at Holly Creek. He was a generous, selfless husband, devoted father, cherished grandfather, great grandfather, and dear friend to many.

As a Denver native he lived a life filled with hard work, determination, family and kindness. He was known for his warm smile, gentle demeanor and unwavering generosity.

Byron proudly served 8 years in the Army Active Reserves.

He grew his father’s small business, Shafer Upholstery, into Shafer Commercial Seating. A company serving customers nationwide and internationally with many employees working for the Company for over 30 years. Working his entire career in the business, he was respected for his dedication and hard work. He approached every task with diligence and integrity leaving a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of working with and for him.

In his free time, Byron enjoyed taking care of his home and family. He enjoyed time in the mountains and cross-country skiing. He was a fix-it extraordinaire.

Byron will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 67 years, Evelyn. His sister Naomi Kerman. His children Hillery Oddo, (Bob), Randall (Lisa). His four grandchildren, Haley Naes (Luke) and their son Teddy, Ashley Anderson (Dane), Adam Shafer and Talia Anderson (Anthony). Survivors also include Rebecca Weiss, extended family and many friends.
 

Service, Monday, May 4, 11:00 AM, Temple Sinai; Livestream available on the 
Temple Sinai website; interment Mt. Nebo Cemetery. 

Memorial contributions may be made to Jewish Family Service or charity of your choice.

Shiva & Condolence Call Information

Shiva will be observed at the home of Randy and Lisa Shafer; Monday and Tuesday from 3:00-6:00 PM (with a Minyan service at 5:00 PM). Condolence visits will also be welcomed on Wednesday from 2:00-6:00PM.
