Obituary of Lawrence Knowles
Lawrence “Larry” Fuller Knowles was born in Buffalo, New York on January 17, 1929. He graduated from the University of Georgia at Athens with a Bachelor’s in Landscape Architecture. Shortly after, he married his true love, Montine Attaway, on June 9, 1951. He is preceded in death by Montine, and is survived by his daughters Valerie Knowles, Priscilla Knowles Williams, Laura Knowles Feuerstraeter, and Grace Knowles.
Larry served with honor and distinction in the Korean War as an Army Lieutenant tank commander. He continued to serve in the Army reserves, retiring with the rank of Colonel. He also had a long and successful career in the National Park Service as a landscape architect.
Larry was a loving husband and father who cherished his wife of 69+ years. He was very active in the volunteer community of the Denver Botanical Gardens and served in many positions at St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church in Lakewood starting in 1972. Larry’s work at St. Joseph’s included his talents in landscape design, where he worked with the congregation on landscaping the entire yard.
He passed away peacefully on May 13, 2026.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, May 17th, 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm; at Feldman Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Larry's memory are encouraged to St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church and the Denver Botanic Gardens.
