Obituary of Marvin Dansky

Marvin Dansky, 96, passed away on May 20, 2026, in Denver. Marvin was born on October 6, 1929, in New York City and grew up in Hempstead, Long Island. His parents, Joseph and Helen, were immigrants to this country. Joseph died when Marvin was young and his mother when he was a teenager. He was preceded in death by his older sister, Florence, and his younger brother, Stan.

Marvin enlisted in the Army in 1947, where he was trained as a medic and was stationed in Florida and later at Fitzsimons in Aurora. He liked what he saw in Colorado. After his discharge from the Army, he naturally decided that he wanted to live in Colorado. The GI Bill enabled Marvin to attend the University of Colorado, Boulder, where he played football until he suffered a severe knee injury, and earned his BA in accounting. He then went to law school at the University of Colorado and earned his JD in 1953.

Marvin met his future wife, Helen (z"l), while in law school, and they were married in 1952. Helen and Marvin had four children: Jerrie (1955), David (1957), Theresa (1962), and Rebecca (1964). Marvin married Janice M. Dansky (née Buchanan) in 2001 and enjoyed many warm and happy years with her until his death.

Marvin was elected District Attorney in 1961 in Adams County, where he prosecuted a number of high-profile corruption cases involving local officials. After leaving office, he then built a thriving private practice and was a mainstay of the Adams County bar until his retirement.

Marvin was an avid skier, a world traveler, and a ginormous Broncos fan. After retiring, Marvin shocked everybody by revealing a remarkable talent for painting.

Marvin is survived by his wife Janice; his children Jerrie, David (Vicki), Theresa, and Rebecca; his grandchildren Elizabeth Schuman (Dan), Olivia Dansky (Dr. Jeffrey Rosenthal), Wes Friednash (Sloan), Jessica Friednash, and Seth Delisi; his niece Nancy Dansky; and his great-granddaughter Abigail Schuman.
