Obituary of Paul Allen Seligman
Paul Allen Seligman, M.D. June 18, 1946 – May 30, 2026
Paul Allen Seligman, M.D., a beloved father, grandfather, husband, physician, researcher, and educator, passed away in his home on May 30, 2026. Born on June 18, 1946, in Buffalo, New York, Paul grew up with a deep love of his hometown. He was a long suffering Bills fan who would probably have thought it fitting and funny that he never saw them win a Super Bowl.
Paul attended Michigan State University, earning his Bachelor of Science degree in 1968. During his time there, he was an active and proud member of Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity. He then returned to his roots, attending the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine, where he earned his Doctor of Medicine in 1972.
He later joined the faculty at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Denver, where he would spend the entirety of a career that spanned nearly five decades. He rose through the academic ranks, earning the title of Professor of Medicine in 1991, a position he held for the rest of his career.
Beyond the laboratory, Paul was a devoted and celebrated teacher and a caring and devoted clinician, adored by his patients. In particular, he was dedicated to providing outstanding care to those who often were denied it by a healthcare system that was inhumane and profit driven: the indigent, the underserved, and even people who were incarcerated.
Most of all, Paul was a dedicated and caring father. He is survived by his children David (Izzi Stone) Seligman, Sam (Hope Griffin) Seligman, and Gabby (Alexander Vasenka) Seligman; his wife, Candice Rossi; his sister, Marcia Seligman; and his previous wife, Beth Seligman. He was the proud grandfather of Ruthie, Miriam, Dalia, Sidney, and Hal. He was exceptionally devoted to his parents, the late Ruth and Ralph Seligman.
Paul Allen Seligman was a man of great compassion. He abhorred ego and elitism. He vibrated with energy. He was irreverent and sometimes rough around the edges. But the depth of his love, especially for his family, cannot ever be overstated. He believed very deeply in the power and promise of redemption. His children and grandchildren will do their very best to honor that commitment. That is what he’d want most from them.
Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 2nd, 10am, Rose Hill Cemetery.
Contributions can be made in Paul’s memory to the Center for Health Progress. Paul believed very deeply in the promise of medicine to heal and uplift, and he hated the ways in which it had been distorted by profit motive. Center for Health Progress is dedicated to attacking that problem right here in Colorado where he provided care for patients for decades.
