Obituary of Beatrice Botkin

Beatrice Botkin (née Siegelbaum) died peacefully in her home on Friday, June 5. She maintained her strong opinions and her strong will throughout her 99 years of life, fueled by her preference for strong coffee. She was an avid reader, listener, mahjong player, and swimmer in her earlier years. Bea nurtured her many friendships and cherished visits and outings with her family. She especially enjoyed visits from her four great-grandchildren (when they were well-behaved, at least).

She was born to Yetta and David Sieglebaum on May 4, 1927, in Brooklyn, New York.

Bea met Stanley Botkin at a social event for Jewish singles in the summer of 1949, and they were married just a few months later in White Plains, NY. Their daughter, Elizabeth, and son, Stephen, were born shortly thereafter. The family moved together throughout Stan’s Military Service, and eventually settled in Norwalk, Connecticut. After many years in their beautiful blue home in Norwalk, Stan and Bea made the choice to move close to their daughter and grandchildren, landing in Littleton, CO in 1993. Bea loved living in Colorado. In her final days, she told her great-grandchildren that Colorado was the best place she had ever been. Switzerland was a close second.

She is survived by son, Stephen (Jeanette Zwart) Botkin, and granddaughters Hannah Botkin, Amanda (Ari) Perlstein, and Alison (John Kelly) Hoskins-Kelly, and great-grandchildren, Maya, Oscar, Aidan, and Wendy. She is preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Botkin; sister, Jean Rosenberg; daughter and son-in-law, Liz and Gary Hoskins; daughter-in-law, Maggie Murray; and many, many beloved friends.

Graveside Service will be held at Mt. Nebo Cemetery on Sunday, June 7, at 2 pm.
