Obituary of Kenneth Knaster

Kenneth Howard Knaster, of Denver, passed away on July 6th, 2026, after a short illness. He was 74. Everybody called him Kenny or Ken. His family was with him when he passed.

Kenny was born on March 16th, 1952, to Shirley and David Knaster. Kenny was born at General Rose Memorial Hospital in Denver where he was one of the original Rose Babies. Kenny attended Denver Public Schools and graduated from George Washington High School in 1970. He attended Southern Colorado State College (now CSU Pueblo).

Kenny had a charming personality and made friends easily. He made a point of learning about everyone around him and talking sincerely to them.

Kenny loved cars. He marked out the years of his life according to the many cars he owned and drove. He loved to drive just for the fun of it, sometimes driving hundreds of miles, having dinner, then heading back home.

Kenny was a lifelong fan of rock and roll music. He especially loved The Beatles, The Beach Boys, and Neil Young, but also many others. He played the drums in several bands throughout his early life.

Kenny cherished animals. His first pet was Charlie, the family poodle. He also loved Gary the cat, and most recently doted on dogs Oliver and Bucket.

Kenny worked as a freelance photographer and computer programmer in Colorado and in California. He spent time working at Apple in California and also worked at several startup companies in and around Silicon Valley. He was skilled at his jobs and he enjoyed all the different kinds of work he did throughout his life.

After Kenny discovered computers, he found a new love working with them, especially database software. He spent many days learning and working with his computer at home, and he turned this knowledge and enthusiasm into a new career.

After he returned to Denver, Kenny faced housing challenges. He met Norman Chandler, who graciously opened his home to Kenny. They continued as roommates happily for 12 years until Kenny recently moved to a care home, where Norman was a frequent visitor (with cousin Carol Diamond) until Kenny’s passing.

Kenny was very close to his immediate family and was devastated by the deaths of his parents, Shirley and David Knaster. He is survived by his brother, Scott (Barbara), nephew Jess (Linzy), niece Devi, grand-niece Abigail, cousins Carol Diamond (Larry) and Todd Diamond, chosen family members Norman Chandler, Vivian Singer, and Nathaniel Singer, and many other family members.

Graveside service will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Commerce City, Colorado, on Thursday, July 9th at 2:30 PM Mountain Time. The service will be streamed live on Feldman’s YouTube channel #2 at https://www.youtube.com/@feldmanmortuarychannel2797/streams
