Obituary of Allen Jay Bemel

Allen Jay Bemel, 76, of Denver, Colorado, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 17th, 2026. 

Born in Denver, Colorado, to parents Donald & Norma (née Swengel) Bemel, of blessed memory. 

Allen is survived by his loving life partner, Elizabeth Yeager.

He had an entrepreneurial spirit. Allen was very curious, inquisitive, and a restaurant foodie, known for being generous and a captivating storyteller.

At the age of 13, he worked for 20 years with his uncle. After his uncle closed the business, Allen purchased and was the owner of LeGrues’ Flowers, Gifts and Christmas Gallery for 40 years, at which time he retired.

Allen is a Colorado native and graduated from George Washington High School. He attended the University of Colorado in Psychology. He also attended the University of Denver with a degree in special education.

Allen had a quick wit and loved to make people laugh. He was loyal, dependable, and a great problem solver. Allen was, as they say, "a real mench", & to know him is to love him.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Mt. Nebo Cemetery in Aurora, Colorado.
