Obituary of Helene Laurie Steinberg
Helene “Hannah” Laurie (née Spalter) Steinberg, 85, passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer's complications. Helene was the wife of Edward Harris Steinberg (z”l) and mother to Cindy (Dan) Elliott, Michael Steinberg, and Linda Steinberg. She was the Nana to Colton (Kelsey) Ford, Sarah Ford, Olivia Steinberg, Elyana Steinberg, and Noah Steinberg, and Super-Nana to Bryson and Hallie Ford.
Born in Flint, Michigan, in 1940, she was the daughter of Leon and Elaine (néeTauber) Spalter. She moved to Denver as a child, where she attended Park Hill Elementary, Smiley Junior High, and East High School, and formed friendships that lasted nearly 80 years. She went on to the University of Texas and married Ed Steinberg in 1960 after her sophomore year. They shared nearly 63 years together.
Helene later returned to school at Metro State to earn her degree and built a career in social work and development, including impactful roles at National Jewish Hospital and Planned Parenthood, where she became a passionate advocate for reproductive rights and women's rights. She and Ed raised three children and traveled the world together, from the mountains of Colorado to Israel, Europe, Africa, and Asia. She was known for her warmth, her dry sense of humor, her extraordinary cooking — especially her brisket, homemade pickles, and chocolate chip cookies — and her fierce devotion to family, evident in the walls of photographs she surrounded herself with.
She will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband in Denver.
A graveside service will be held at Emanuel Cemetery located within Fairmount Cemetery, on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at 1:45 pm. Livestream will be available via the Feldman Mortuary YouTube Channel #2
