Evan Gould, Remembered for His Big Heart, Quick Wit, and Love of Sports

Evan Matthew Gould, 28, died unexpectedly on August 26, 2026.  He will be remembered for his kind heart, quick wit and love of sports.

Evan was a devoted fan of the Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche and Philadelphia Eagles, celebrating their victories, agonizing their losses, yet remaining loyal throughout. A highlight in his life was attending Game 5 of the 2023 NBA championship playoffs and witnessing first-hand his beloved Nuggets’ win over the Miami Heat.

Sports gave Evan endless things to debate, analyze, and enjoy. He didn’t just watch sports, he studied them, delighting in the strategy, numbers, players, matchups, and details others may miss. He could discuss sports for hours, always with opinions, predictions, statistics, or new angles to consider.

In his early years, Evan played club soccer, baseball and ran cross country. His great love was basketball, which he played competitively from grade school through high school. He attended Denver’s Thomas Jefferson (TJ) high school, where he played basketball at the varsity level. At TJ, he was known as Evan “Wet” Gould for his slick, outside shot, and he achieved “All American” status, designated for Honors student-athletes who excel both in academics and athletics.  There, he also served as a journalist for the school’s newspaper and TV broadcast, writing and reporting on sports-related and other stories. In college, he created and managed the Denver Nuggets blog, Nuggelove.

Evan graduated with honors from Colorado State University, where he majored in Statistics and minored in Sports Management. His passion for sports became his career. After college, he was instrumental in conceptualizing and opening one of Colorado’s first Sportsbooks and worked for the past 5 years as a statistical sports analyst for Fanatics Betting and Gaming, bringing together his love of the game and sharp analytical mind.  

Evan was so much more, however, than his sharp mind and love of sports. He had an enormous heart and genuine curiosity about the world. He regularly played golf and was continually working on perfecting his swing. He played darts, cards and video and board games, and he consistently beat us all at Rummikub.  While he always loved a challenge and was competitive in games, he never shied away from congratulating his victors and giving credit where credit was due. He loved animals and cared about people. He showed up for them, made them laugh, and brought a special energy into the lives of those fortunate enough to know him.

Most of all, Evan was deeply loved by many. He had the blessing of a loyal, supportive group of life-long friends. His family and friends will miss his laugh, his humor, intelligence, opinions, his kindness, his sweet gentleness with animals, and so much more that made him uniquely Evan.

Evan is survived by his parents, Tamara Hoxworth (Brad Bush) and Ari Gould (Diane Amdur); his sister, Ellie Gould; his stepbrothers, Brian Amdur and Michael Amdur (Sydni Barboa); his grandparents, all deceased, Penina and Paul Gould, and Fran and Roy Hoxworth; his aunts and uncles, Cheryl Gould (Phil Rosov), Josh Gould (Melodye Feldman), Bill Hoxworth, and Sherry Huffman; his cousins, Coby Gould (Miranda Card Lampke), Liat Rosov (Jonathan Gilbert), Ariel Rosov, Jamie Gunn (Tony Gunn), Tom Huffman; and the love of his life, Madelyn Charney.

Relatives and friends are invited on Tuesday, September 1, to Feldman Mortuary, 1673 York Street, Denver, 80206 where funeral services will begin promptly at 1:00 p.m. The service will also be livestreamed via Feldman Mortuary Youtube Channel. 

Burial will follow at Emanuel Cemetery within Fairmount.

Shiva will be held at 351 South Gaylord Street, Denver, on Tuesday, September 1, from 4:30-8:30 p.m. and Wednesday, September 2, from 5:30-8:30 p.m.  

Donations in Evan’s memory may be made to Humane Colorado or Good Sports.
