I first met Edgar in Juárez. I was visiting for the first time. It was late at night, Leo and I were returning from a night out in the town and we stopped at Yonque El Solito, the junk yard en la Carretera Panamericana Leo's dad had left the family after his death in May of 1989. Walking into a poorly-lit room, I saw a kid sleeping on a mattress. He looked about 9, later si would find out he was 12. The sleeping kid was Edgar. We all got in Leo’s truck and took him back with us to El Paso. Little did I know then that he would be a big part of my life—mi cuñadito—and that I would one day be shedding tears with the rest of his family for his untimely passing. He was always present, with his quick smile and sense of humor—like when he helped with Carime's birthday by holding one side of the rope of the piñata, or when he lived in our house in the mid 1990s, here in Wisconsin. His Wisconsin family knew that "Edgar loves ponzarottas" and Wisconsin cookies. Al principio le mandábamos ponzas (o panzas, como les decimos), but eventually he learned to make them. That’s who he was, a quick learner and a doer. He was also very giving, generous. The last time he came for a visit is fixed in my mind, August 2017, lo veo claramente, sonriente, con su clásica camiseta negra, coming up the stairs holding a cooler full of beer and soda. It was not his last time over, though. He returned before going back to Colorado to fix a heater in David's room that had been broken. No me cobró. Lo arregló y ya. Ese era Edgar: servicial, de gran corazón. Not one ounce of fakeness. A straight shooter. I still remember him with his crooked teeth, as a teenager; his quick humor, teaching Carime his made-up Barney lyrics that often uoset Navil: "I hate you, you hate me..." sang to the Barney tune. He thought it was funny. We all did. The anti-Barney lyrics. (Sorry Navil). I was there for some of his big moments: high school graduation, the birth of his first two sons, the first time he tasted a ponzarotta… We all grew up and life did not turn out to be as perfect as we had pictured it, pero Edgar supo hacer lo suyo: master electrician and master father. Funny tío who did not want to be called tío. It made him feel old, he said. Well Edgar, you will forever be a young tío --caring y malhablado and very much loved—the best kind. But you got your wish. You will never be old. Go ride your bike with the angels and teach them made-up lyrics to their angel songs. Give them a taste of that wicked sense of humor -- the Edgar brand. Rest in Power, Edgar. May eternity be yours.

Edgar seemed happiest when he was with family, always ready to share his famous bacon wrapped jalapenos. He encouraged family gatherings, and was part of his loved ones milestones. I will remember him as a family man who loved his children very much. He will be dearly missed.

Edgar, you were one of a kind, your authentic self that always said what you thought & never held back to be politically correct. You were smart, caring, funny, honest, non-jaded, loved life, cared deeply for your family & friends, and loved nature & your Harley.
You were my little cousin who was like the little brother I never had. I knew I could count on you to tell me when I messed up or be the supporting family I always needed. You will be missed by my sweet aunt, your favorite sister, brothers, your sons, your beautiful daughter, your nieces and nephews, grandmother, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. I miss you every day Edgar. My uncle, my tio, I’ll always remember your kindness and sense of humor. From putting up with my never ending chatter as a little girl to bringing me the best hoppy beers from CO, you always found a way to brighten my day. I love you. RIP.

Edgar had blessed us by sharing a little bit of his life with all of us . It was clear that He was a very proud father by the way he spoke about his family. He had a special zest for life that led him on adventures some people will never get the opportunity to do. He was loved by most and has left us all with a hole in our hearts and our heads full of Edgar moments that he was kind enough to share with us. Thank you Edgar . Very proud to have call you my friend.

It is hard to believe he is gone.
We talked and sent each other crazy memes almost every day. We had a similar sense of humor.
Even though he was always working on something we went camping together, worked on the land together, road together, went 4wheeling, hunting and always found the time to have some fun.
Almost every time I went out on any adventure it was with him.
He was a master electrician and a successful business owner but most of all he was a father. I have had the pleasure of watching his children grow up into the great people they are today. I am so sorry that his family has had to suffer this loss.
Edgar was my best friend, I will always remember our fun times together and I will miss him very much.
Rest in peace homie!
