Obituary of Gerda Breit

Gerda Breit of Woodbridge CT formerly of Denver died on January 15 2005 at the age of 95 at the Yale-New Haven Hospital. She was the mother of Peter K. (Viola) Breit Old Saybrook CT and Richard J. (Toby) Breit Stratford CT. Gerda was born in Berlin Germany to Helene O. nee Weigert and Professor Dr. Richard Muehsam. In 1939 Gerda her husband and their two children Peter and Gay left Dresden Germany and came to Denver. Having attended the University of Heidelberg and the Sorbonne followed by the Universities of Denver and Colorado she became a popular professor of German language and literature at the University of Denver. Gerda was also active in her community with UNICEF Colorado PTA and the Center for Judaic Studies. In addition Gerda frequently lectured at public schools colleges and religious groups on the Holocaust. Gerda was preceded in death by her husband Manuel K. and daughter Gay in 1959 and later by her brother Dr. Eduard Muehsam. A private committal service will be held on Thursday at Fairmount Mausoleum followed by an open memorial service 1030AM at Feldman Mortuary. Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
