Mildred (Millie) Molly Menkovsky was born in 1918 in Denver to Fannie and Sam Menkovsky. Sam immigrated to Denver from the Ukraine with Fannie's brothers. The men traveled to Denver and earned passage to bring the rest of the family to the United States. Millie was the baby of the family, the last of four girls. She survived Bertha (Lustok), Anne (Simon), and Ruth (Kramer). Millie graduated from East High School. She was confirmed at Temple Emanuel as well as a congregant for nearly 70 years. She met Norman Karden on a blind date at a dance in Eldorado Springs. It was love at first sight. On June 23, 1940 Norman and Mildred were married. Millie worked during the early years of WWII while Norman served in the US Army. Their son Steven was born in 1944. Millie worked for the Tiffin Inn as an office manager for more than 20 years. She retired from her position with the State of Colorado as an auditor for Workers' Compensation. Upon retirement Millie volunteered at Temple Emanuel preschool and was and advisor B'Nai B'rith girls chapter 252. She loved to play golf, bridge, and go fishing with Norman. Millie was always a happy and bubbly person in addition to being a wonderful cook. She would start cooking for the High Holidays and Passover about a week ahead of time and she made enough for an ARMY. Her family loved her mandelbreit, honeycake, and cherry chocolate torte.
