Obituary of Larry Bodaness
Larry Bodaness, Brush, CO, passed away Thursday, October 25, 2012, at his home in Brush. He was born August 6, 1930, in New York City, New York to Abe and Sylvia Bodaness, and graduated from the Denver Public Schools. Larry enlisted in the United States Navy on January 22, 1951, and was discharged November 2, 1954, having served both stateside and overseas. He married Shirley Boxer on June 5, 1955, in the Hebrew Educational Alliance Center, Denver. The couple moved to Brush in 1957 where Larry went to work for the Jack Boxer and Sons Feedlot, where he remained until 1981. He co-owned the Reward Restaurant from 1981 to 1984 and owned Culligan Water Conditioning. He retired in 2007. Larry was a member of the Brush Masonic Lodge, Fort Morgan Shriners, the Brush American Legion and was very involved with Shriners Children's Hospital. He was well known for his craftsmanship, and enjoyed photography and framing, bowling, and softball. Larry was very active in the Brush Rodeo for many years. He and Shirley also were well-known for their holiday lighting displays and holiday entertaining. Surviving are his wife, Shirley of Brush; one son, Spencer (Janet) Bodaness of Sterling; three daughters, Mona (John Trobec) Bodaness of Castle Rock, Stacie (late Clark) Benjamin of Las Vegas, Nevada; and Marti (Bruce) Taylor of Napa, California; one sister, Ilene (Bernie) Gellerman of Apollo, Florida; one brother and sister-in-law, late Norman (Shirley) Bodaness; grandchildren, Joe Bodaness, Misti Kae Buchanan, Branden Bodaness, Jacklyn Bodaness and Chase Taylor; and great-grandchildren Tobias and Cheyenne. Preceding him in death were his parents and his in-laws, Jack and Mary Boxer. Graveside service was held Monday, October 29, 2012, at 11:30 a.m. in the Rose Hill Cemetery, 6841 E. 62nd Avenue, Commerce City, CO 80222. A memorial service for Larry was held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, October 31, 2012, at the Brush Masonic Lodge, 301 Carson, Brush. Contributions may be left to Shriners Hospitals for Children or Greeley Hospice.
