Obituary of Sonia Dunevitz
Sonia Boxer Dunevitz, loving Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and Great-Great Grandmother passed away March 1, 2014, two days after her 104th birthday. Sonia was born in Siberia, Russia, February 27, 1910, where her father was serving in the Russian Army. Her family moved to Denver when she was 3 months old. Sonia married W.J. (Vavie) Dunevitz in 1930. They were married for 51 Years. He passed away in 1981. During WWII Sonia served as a "Gray Lady", a term applied to American Red Cross volunteers who wore grey uniforms. The women acted as hostesses handing out coffee and sandwiches to the troops as the trains came through Denver's Union Station. She worked at Neusteters for many years as a manager of the handbag department. Sonia enjoyed playing Mah Jong and Pan, and entertaining her friends and family. Sonia was known for her amazing baking and cooking skills. Each year until she was 103, she made hundreds of Matzo balls for her family and friends and countless cakes to mark every occasion and holidays. She also baked the Challahs for each grandchild's wedding and for all of the great grandchildren's Bar and Bat Mitvahs. Sonia was very proud of her children, 7 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She was beloved by her family and she will be missed every day. Sonia is survived by her daughter and Son-In-Law, Ketsie and Robert (Budsy) Klausner; Son, Buddy (Barbara) Dunevitz. Grandchildren; Debra (Stephen) Rosen, Cindy (Lee) Kutner, Lisa (Allen) Schreiber, Lori Bernstein, Sheri (Will) Gold, Marla (Steve) Roper and Brad Dunevitz. Great-Grandchildren; Kaycie (Steve) Grigel, Jerrod Rosen, Justin, Alyssa and Mia Kutner, David, Jillian and Arielle Schreiber, Morgen, Sheridan and Dylan Bernstein, Willie, Cody and Nathan Gold, Megan and Amanda Roper, Max and Sydney Dunevitz. Great-Great Grandchildren; Brook and Luna Grigel. Service, Tuesday, 1:00 pm, Hebrew Educational Alliance, Interment at Rose Hill Cemetery. Contributions to Hebrew Educational Alliance.
