I selected the ball and bat as my gesture to Zac because he was made to grow up too fast. At 14, he should have still been getting loved on mercilessly by his parents, not sent off to be fixed or changed. He should have had a ride to school, not been made to walk those sad city streets alone. One of Zac's influences, Jim Morrison, said that we kill our kids by not accepting them, by making our love conditional. We must embrace those around us who stand alone, not chastise them, for they may very well be the leaders of our tomorrows. I didn't know Zac, but I wish I had.

i went to treatment with Zac
i will never get the pleasure of meeting someone like him again. In the words of a mutual friend, he saw the world for what it was. People can be so unnecessarily unkind, and people were sometimes to me in treatment. But he defended me, in the smartest, most comical, effective ways possible. We bonded together over going through similar struggles and our mutual love for listening to and making music. He was the kind of person that provoked the kind of thoughts that change you. He showed me so much.He will be more than missed.
