Obituary of David Cole

Longtime community activist and local government consultant David Cole has passed away. David, who was devoted to his children and grandchildren as well as his community, was the owner and principal of David J. Cole and Associates. He had been in somewhat ill health for some time but his death Friday morning was sudden and unexpected leaving family and friends grief-stricken. David had been a figure in Denver politics for over 30 years. An indelible force in lobbying, he engineered some of the most important public policy initiatives and campaigns leading to the renewal and success of Denver. He was a pillar of the community and gave his heart and soul to Denver. Denver wouldn't be what it is today without him. In September in recognition of his tremendous community service and impact on Denver’s diverse community, David was a recipient of the Denver Urban League’s Whitney M. Young, Jr. Award. David also contributed time and effort to various nonprofit organizations such as: Del Norte Neighborhood Development Corporation; Father Woody's Haven of Hope; LoDo District; Lower Downtown Neighborhood Association; Denver Preschool Program; and Friends of Denver Firefighters. David loved his family and is survived by his sons Todd Cole and Lee Cole, his Daughters in Law Matilda Cole and Sandra Cole, his Granddaughters Lily, Leila and Lucy Cole and Grandsons River Cole and Ryan Cole. A Memorial service will be held Wednesday, starting at 3PM, at The Studio Loft which is part of the Denver Performing Arts Complex. The entrance is on 14th Street between Curtis and Champa. Parking is available at the DPAC Parking Garage.
