Obituary of Norman Gray

With deep sorrow we mourn the loss of our beloved Norman J. Gray of Denver. Father, grandfather, great grandfather, companion, uncle, cousin and friend to many. Born on the “West Side” of Denver 90 years ago, his contributions to the community in both business and philanthropy were many. Yet, for all he accomplished, he was most proud of his family calling them his “dividends”. Norm spent the 50 best years of his life with his loving wife, Barbie. Norm is survived by his two loving daughters, Karen (Arnie) Stein and Lynne (Andy) Greene, his companion, Eilene Harris, Sister-in-laws Lorna Gray and Joanne Rollnick, grandchildren Brian (Amy) Stein, and Jill (Vitaly) Vishnitsky, Erin (Adam) Groom, and Lauren Greene. He has 5 great grandchildren, Colby, Josie, Zoe, Lexi, and Sutton. There are numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Sincere appreciation to his caretakers and especially his best friends; Johnson, Irina, and Lana. Norm graduated from West High School and University of Colorado where he was a Phi Sigma Delta. He joined the Marines during the war. In Denver he became a C.P.A and joined the family business, Rollnick Shoes which survived the Depression. The chemistry was right with A.C. Rollnick, Phil Rollnick, and himself as they proceeded to expand their stores to the major malls and into several states. Along the way they developed various real estate interests. Norm had a wonderful life and traveled the world. He was a wonderful father (Mr. mom), grandfather, and great-grandfather. He used his leadership skills as a community volunteer as he dedicated countless hours to his favorite causes like B’nai Brith, The Anti-Defamation League, Rose Hospital and others. He rose to the top in every organization generally as President and received numerous community rewards for his service. He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Gray, his parents, Phillip and Mary Gray, father and mother-in-law A.C. Rollnick and Dora Rollnick, brother, Gerald Gray, and brother-in-law Phillip Rollnick. Services will be held Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at Temple Emanuel at 1:30pm. Donations to Jewish Family Service and the Anti-Defamation League or Charity of Choice.
