My Deepest sympathy on the passing of Mr. Rose. Mr. Rose taught me at NJH Sept. 1971 - June 1972. A full semester punctuated by endless medical tests. He was a true master of the game. He made learning fun, he got me interested. Prior to arriving at NJH my ever-worsening condition made both school and learning nearly impossible - I was left back a year and ultimately tutored at home. I had pretty much given up on learning. I was 11 - sick and scared. NJH saved my life. but more importantly Mr. Rose made me love learning. He gave me hope. He taught - in an almost intuitive manner - the three R's as they say. It was a small, light, airy classroom atop the B'Nai Brith building on Colfax Ave. Two separate tables that he split the day between. His teaching style was personal. He ignited my passion for reading and for learning. Things still sacred to me to this day at age 57. Upon my departure -the night before - I left for him, at his desk, a small ceramic frog I'd made in Occupational Therapy. He came down to thank me & see me off personally the next morning in June 1972. There were tears. He told my parents "They cry when they come, they cry when they go!" There is, now, this moment only the fullness of his compassion within my heart. He was a great man.

Francene and Larry and Brian and families,
We remember meeting you and Sheldon for the first time 18 years ago in the sales office for our development. On that day Sheldon took an interest in our young boys (then 6 & 9). That day he mentioned playing catch with them.
From then on Sheldon was a mentor to both of our boys, and gave them their first "jobs" helping him with the sprinklers. Following that he employed them for yard work and various errands, meanwhile teaching them responsibility and work ethics.
We knew that Sheldon truly cared about our family and often asked about the boys after they left home. When he saw one of us he asked about the other.
He was my garden buddy and I will miss seeing him outside watering his flowers. My tomato plants this year are in his honor!
We miss him and treasure our memories with him through the years. We love you!

Dear Francene,
We have so many wonderful memories of our times with Sheldon. Our first day in the neighborhood when he brought us cases of water as we were moving in, his mentoring of the boys in how to do proper lawn care, seeing him across the street watering his beautiful red geraniums, his multiple snow blowers and lawn mowers, our fun dinners out together, and most of all his smile. So many many more wonderful memories. We miss him already. We love you.

Francene,
You, Brian and Larry are in my thoughts. You and Sheldon were such an important influence in my life, every summer at Shwayder when I was young. Thank you for helping to raise me to be who I am today, instilling a love for Shwayder in me, and for showing me the right way to be a parent. Sheldon will truly be missed by me and thousands of Shwayder campers.
