Mark Fields posted a condolence

My name is Mark Fields.
I am the son of Milton (Fink) Fields and Irma (Fields) David from CA.(Los Angeles)
I am so sorry to hear of Jack's passing.
I did not become aware, until today, and it caught me completely by surprise.
Jack was a first cousin of my father, Milton. He was the son of Louis Finkelstein and
Eva(Luper, I believe) Smith.
My earliest memory of Jack, was a visit to his beautiful home in Denver, many years ago, when I was but 13 and fresh off of my Bar-Mitzvah in California. If my memory serves me, we met with Bill and I believe, Larry, and their families, as well.
Jack and I corresponded, fairly regularly, over the past many years by email. I would send him the occasional (internet) joke or comic and he would respond, reliably, with his prophetic, brilliant and characteristically "dry", quip that would say a hundred words
worth, however, in only two or three. When I would ask about his welfare, especially after Adrienne's(Sis?) passing, he would, even under that unfortunate circumstance, reply with the same two or three word reply.
I will miss corresponding with him greatly...and especially, his "truncated" replies!
It would be greatly appreciated if a family member could contact me at:
mhf91206@gmail.com or by phone at (818)795-5910.
Again, I am so sorry for the loss of such a unique and admirable soul. The World cannot afford to be deprived of one such as Jack.

I am very sorry to hear about the loss of Jack.
Although I didn't have the pleasure of spending a lot of time with him, I've heard many fascinating stories about the people he helped during his career and his Big Band.
Wishing the Litvak family peace and comfort.
Love,
Brian

Dear Litvak Family,
It is with a heavy heart I heard of Jack's death, and I wish you all of the comfort and love that family and friends provide during this difficult time.
I heard only last week from a patient who said "are you related to Dr. Jack Litvak?" I cannot tell you how often in the 30+ years I have practiced medicine just how many times I had people ask me about Jack! I used to call him when it happened just so I could talk with him! The nurses who would pull the big fat cigars out of his mouth before he'd go into the operating room, the many patients whose backs he saved and restored their quality of life, and this little one time intern who had to call him in the middle of the night for his patient answer to a young doctor's question....all immensely grateful for his presence in our lives.
I have fun memories of the big band parties he would have at the Stuart Street Mansion--not just one band, mind you--the man knew how to celebrate. And how he loved dear Adrienne and the kids!
A life well lived, what more could we ask for?
Much love,
Trish Litvak

I am so saddened by the loss of Uncle Jack.
Stacy, Susan, David, Jackie, Jeff, and Elana: may you all have wonderful memories of a man who was a brilliant and trusted neurosurgeon - so many people over the years have told me they owed their life to your father, who saved them on the operating table. May your memories make this loss more bearable.
And to Larry Litvak and Bill Litvak, Uncle Jack's brothers: I am so very sorry for your loss. I know you shared, from your earliest memories, bonds with your big brother that were very special. I cherish the stories that I've heard of the brotherhood, shared mischief, camaraderie, and rivalries you shared growing up in a Denver that was then just a frontier town.
There is so much to remember that a brief condolence really can't do Uncle Jack's life any honor. I certainly wish we could listen to a recording of the Jack Litvak Big Band swinging this town in the years after World War II. I was too young to ever see and hear that sensation, but I did get to enjoy a man who was part brilliant neurosurgeon, part eccentric, part curmudgeon, and quite completely funny. I still remember that his only comment, on seeing my first-born son 27 years ago, was, "Nice cranial structure."
