Obituary of Lucy Ginley

Lucy Ginley (née Honula) died peacefully in Boulder, CO on September 5, 2017 at the age of 64.  She was born in 1953 in Springfield, Il.

Lucy is survived by her husband David, sister Pat, daughter Aimee and son-in-law Steve and their two children Jason and Alex, and son Arthur and daughter-in-law Luda. She married David Ginley in 1975 after meeting two years previously, kayaking the Arkansas river.  Lucy was a near Olympic class boater, competing in the 1974 Olympic trials.  Lucy and Dave started their life together in Boston, MA, and then moved to Albuquerque, NM where they were blessed with their children Aimee (1980) and Art (1983).  In 1992 they moved to Colorado to be with family and to continue their passion for renewable energy and sustainability. Lucy was a very active mother for Aimee and Art, but found time to return to school to fulfill her dream of being a landscape architect.  She graduated from University of Colorado with a degree in landscape architecture at age 50 in 2003. After graduating and getting her license she started her own company, EcoDesigns, building on both her love of plants and art.  Few have loved plants, water features, and rocks as much as Lucy.  She was a walking compendium of native plant information and she experimented wonderfully at her home in Evergreen with outdoor and indoor ponds and 360 tons of boulders.

Lucy was a wonderful wife, caring mother and awesome grandma.  She loved the family and was a glue holding her extended family together. She was also loved by and has impacted many others in her extended families, which included: The Evergreen Garden Club, her book club, the Loveland Ski Patrol, and the entire neighborhood, who knew her for walking her dogs Skye and Logan, and for removing any invasive plants in her line of sight.

She loved traveling, and one of her greatest pleasures was taking the extended family on big trips to destinations including Africa, Mexico, and Hawaii.  She was always willing to try new things, and this was infectious for the whole family. Her greatest loves were doing things with her children and with her grandchildren, such as cookie baking, tie dyeing, hiking, playing in the ocean, and taking the grandchildren skiing for the first time. Her love of life was huge and she showed it at every turn.

A funeral is scheduled for 1:00pm Friday at Beth Evergreen, interment at Evergreen Memorial Garden, reception to follow at the family home, 33630 Inverness Dr. Evergreen 80439. Rabbi Arnold will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Lucy’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to
