Obituary of Mary Ruth Brooks

Mary Brooks was born Mary Ruth Borden on March 2, 1932 in Knoxville, Tennessee. She was orphaned at the age of 13 and struck out on her own to Chicago, Illinois where she met and married Marvin Rubin in 1954. She worked to put Marvin through Optometry School and they moved to Denver, Colorado in 1957 for him to set up practice. He died in 1958 and she married Leon Brooks in 1959. They were married 31 years until his death in 1990. Her greatest loves were her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her favorite past times were Bingo and going to Las Vegas. She began going to Las Vegas when it was built in the 1940's and made her last trip a few months ago. In 2004, she moved into Brookdale, an independent care facility, where she won the hearts of everyone, staff and residents alike. Mary seemed to charm the world and everyone she met fell in love with her. Mary left this world on October 28, 2017 in her sleep at the age of 85. She is survived by her sister, Jackie Wolff, nieces Janet Wolff, Cindy Shaimon and Debbie Brooks Luby, nephews Alan Wolff, Tim Wolff and Ed Brooks, daughters, Sherri Tucker and Joi Chavez, sons-in-law, Lynn Tucker and Michael Chavez, sons Sid Brooks, Nick Brooks, Lenny Brooks and Tony Burkhart, daughters-in-law, Elizabeth Flaagon, Sherry Brooks, Gail Brooks and Carol Brooks. She is preceded in death by her son Larry Brooks. She is also survived by grandchildren, Dawn Brooks Burger, Shawna Brooks, Stacey Bianco Brooks, Chris Brooks, Kelly Brooks, Kristen Brooks, Lincoln Brooks, Dylan Brooks, Jonathan Reed, Brendan Reed and Michael Reed, her great grandchildren, Kinzley Reed, Bentley Reed, Basil Reed and Liam Reed. She is also survived by many family and friends too numerous to mention. We will all miss her very much. RIP to a wonderful mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. Viewing, Tuesday, 4pm-5pm, Feldman Mortuary.  Funeral Services will be held at Feldman Mortuary, 1673 York Street, Denver, CO 80206 at 10:00 am on Wednesday November 1, 2017. Interment will be at Mount Nebo Memorial Park. Reception, after the service from 12pm to 2pm, The Wolf Room at the Jewish Community Center.
