Today I learned of Burt's passing. Just last month I was talking over the phone with my good friend Wayne Walker about Burt. Professor Dunevitz was so much more than our instructor. His wisdom and sensitivity was remarkable, as was his sense of humor and sense of honor. Wayne and I loved kidding with Burt, especially when he would offer details of his volunteer work in Israel, at the Igloo Cooler factory...So he said. We use to accuse him of covering for doing covert work at the Uzi factory. Burt would laugh and say...Now fellas, let's not let that get around. Burt's laugh was unique, hardy and comical. I loved to hear him laugh. I liked all the instructors at FIU, but I loved Burt, as did my friend Wayne. Upon graduating from our class in 1991, we as a class, presented Burt with a plaque. Wayne and I privately presented Burt with a retired Mossad badge. A beautiful badge as I recall, with the Eye of David in the center. Burt was absolutely astounded and started to tear up. He looked at us and said he had never even seen a badge like this before, and would always treasure it. Wayne and I once again teased him and said that he probably wears one while volunteering in Israel. That was the last time we teased Burt and last time we saw him. Burt gave us a hug and wished us well. Throughout the years I have often thought of Burt and talked with Wayne about him. Wayne and I have shared many stories and many laughs while discussing Burt. Sometimes the hardest things to put into words are how some people leave such an indelible impression. More than once, Burt offered me advice while I was in a tight spot. At the time it felt like fatherly advise though I would not have dared tell him that then. I wish I could now.

I’m sorry to hear of Dr. Dunevitz’s passing. What an incredible legacy he leaves behind. I am just one of seemingly countless students who admired his brilliance and hoped to walk away without knowing a tenth of what he knew. He was such an incredible man to so many. I still quote some of his “Burtisms”, nearly thirty years later. I pray for peace for your family.

I am really sorry to hear about Dr. Dunevitz passing. This man is my reason for getting through...he helped me get through a divorce in 1991. He was a hero to me .....FIU 1992

Carolyn and I had Professor Dunevitz at F.I.U. first graduating class of physical therapy 1975. Burt brought a different kind of energy to our classroom, and asked us to think outside our cookbook education. Sometimes we were not sure where he was taking us (and sometimes, I think often, he asked himself if it was worth the effort). But how proud to know that the majority of the class had enough confidence to start their own businesses. Carolyn and I loved our Burt!!! And Barb, thanks for sharing him with us!!!! And for all those wonderful meals in your home. Especially that meal that was frozen, recooked, and used again.
We have been blessed.

I was one of the lucky ones to have had Burt as an instructor while a student at FIU in Miami. As a member of the PT class of '89, we were all blessed to share in his vast knowledge, amazing sense of humor and overwhelming personality. We all loved going to his class and would have done anything for him, and he for us.
For the last week or so, Burt has been on my mind. So today, I decided to look him up online. Sadly, I read of his passing. God bless him and his family! We will all miss this amazing man!

Sending love to the Dunevitz family. I didn't know Bury personally, but he raised a wonderful daughter Hannah and he sounded like a wonderful man. So sorry for your loss. Hope you find peace in remembering his life and your time together with him.

Burt was a wonderful guy with a great sense of humor and a great thirst for knowledge. He was also an avid gardener, something I envied. When we lived in Miami, once Barb and Burt invited us over for dinner and I brought a gardenia from my garden. I was not a gardener and had a brown thumb in fact, but there was this shrub in our backyard that was there long before we bought the house and it thrived on lack of attention. Burt was trying to grow gardenias and was not having much success, so I sort of rubbed it in that I was having no trouble with mine. He took it all in good humor.
