My sincere condolences to your family. Dr. Keats was one of my favorite professors at the University of Denver. I studied counterpoint and composition with him in 1994-1995. He was one of the most talented and knowledgeable musicians that I ever worked with. His passion for music was infectious and he was a major inspiration to me. He was also very witty and he knew how to bring just the right amount of levity to our classes and lessons. I really loved his classes and I learned so much. I was fortunate to have reconnected with him a few years ago and we exchanged emails for a time. Although he was in ill health he made an attempt to answer all of my messages. He spoke lovingly about his home and the view of the mountains and the wildlife. I hope that these gave him comfort until the end. I wish him peace, and I pray for comfort to the family. I am just now learning about his passing, so I am sorry that I missed his memorial service. He was a brilliant man and he will be missed. Sincerely, James Tobias
