Obituary of William Silverman
William S. Silverman, Attorney at Law, 2 /19/53 - 6/21/2018
Died June 21, 2018, peacefully, at home, after a decades long struggle with diabetes and kidney disease. Beloved husband of Julia Davidson Riley, and beloved father of Charles Riley Silverman, Joseph Riley Silverman, and Andrew Riley Silverman. Survived by his siblings, Craig (Trish) Silverman, and Nancy (Alan) Kay, and aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews all across the country. Bill was a third generation Denver lawyer. His parents, Sheldon and Barbara Silverman, predeceased him.
Except for a year of study in Israel at Hebrew University, Bill lived his entire life in Denver, Colorado. He is a graduate of George Washington H.S., the University of Colorado, and the University of Colorado Law School. Within a year of becoming a lawyer, Bill successfully argued a case before the Colorado Court of Appeals. Like his father before him, he became counsel to Jordon Perlmutter and Co., where he worked on projects such as building Southwest Plaza. During his 34 year legal career, he lectured on landlord-tenant matters, and was the author of the Landlord-Tenant chapter in the Krendl’s Methods of Practice treatises. He created respectful friendships with his legal adversaries, and in that way, solved problems to make the world a better place. In February of 2004, on the single biggest adventure of his life, Bill traveled to Istanbul and in the middle of that city’s worst blizzard, acquired a new kidney. That added 14 years to his life, and permitted him to watch his children grow. Possessing a photographic memory, Bill never forgot any point of law, any Colorado Rockies left handed reliever, nor any restaurant meal. He could recite the Declaration of Independence backward, perfectly. He and his wife practiced law together for 25 years as Silverman and Riley. To his sons, he passed on a love of Judaism, Denver sports teams, art, and political discourse. The family proudly belongs to the Hebrew Educational Alliance.
