May I add my condolences, four years later, for the passing of Danyel. Having moved away, I didn’t learn of her passing until much later. I knew Danyel when she represented me from 1989-1996. I was immediately struck by her calm, self-assured demeanor, honesty, integrity, and profound belief in God, as well as her devotion to her religious traditions. I will forever remember, respect, and miss her.
May your family be blessed with many fond memories and an assurance that you will be reunited at a future time. God bless!

Danyel was a beautiful person, I will miss her very much. I'm sorry my time with her was so short. My love goes out to Danyel, where ever she may be now. Let The Great Pussycat watch over her now and guide her way.

I've been touched by learning of Danyel's passing and now moreso after reading her obituary. In her quiet way she made a real difference in "repairing the world".She was an important member of our Torah Class who always added a dimension of humor and nuggets of knowledge each time she came. We will all miss her prescence greatly. Charlotte Krasnoff

I have known Danyel in the world of "lawyering" for 15+ years. I enjoyed her quiet wit, her ability to turn others' drama into reasonableness. She took the time to truly know her clients. Danyel spent many hours talking with me about the case of Robert Dewey. In the beginning I did not share her belief that Mr. Dewey was innocent. She convinced me - no easy task. Danyel pulled strings that I did not even know existed on behalf of Mr. Dewey. SHE is the reason Mr. Dewey was exonerated, no question. To save one person from a miserable fate is extraordinary, Mr. Dewey was not her only victory, she had many. I will miss her quiet approach to thorny issues, her doggedness and her enormous courage to do what she knew she must.

I did not have the pleasure of knowing Danyel, but she sounds like a wonderful person and I am sorry for your loss. The scriptures point to a time in the near future when God will rescue those who have died from the grave. “From the power of the Grave I will redeem them; From death I will recover them. Where are your stings, O Death? Where is your destructiveness, O Grave? Compassion will be concealed from my eyes.” (Hosea 13:14) God will bring those who have died back to life, and he will destroy death. No more will we deal with the stings of death. Rather, all living will have the prospect of living forever in paradise on earth. May this hope for the future comfort your grieving hearts.

Danyel was the guardian for a child in a case we worked on together for many years. She was available for the child and was a diligent advocate for the child in court. She was a pleasure to work with and I respected her. We stayed in touch for many years afterwards, when she took on different types of legal work. And her quest on behalf of Robert Dewey was so her-hard fought, quietly done, based on a conviction for what was right, without concerns for promoting herself.
She was a person of high moral character and will be missed.
My sympathies to her family on her loss.

I knew Danyel thru many, many, many hours of classes with Rabbi Hoffman & other classes at Congregation Nevei Kodesh in Boulder that I had the great fortune to share with her.
..............
I also had the great fortune to share many Shabbos dinners with Danyel & several Pesach events.
........
It is hard to belief that she is gone...Danyel had an intensity & commitment to life and to learning & a quick & subtle mind that saw into the interior of Torah...What an incredible person & what an impact & contributions.. She has made...to my life ....
....
Thank You Danyel....
....Be Blessed in your new adventure....
...This World is a Better Place for you having been here...

While I worked in the same office as Danyel, I did not know her very well. She was a quiet person and mostly kept to herself. I remember when the Denver Post wrote an article about Danyel after her victory in the Robert Dewey case. After reading it, I was blown away. I remember thinking, "wow this is truly a rare person in a world full of people who find it easier to look the other way when the situation at hand doesn't personally affect them." Danyel never gave up. She was committed, caring, a true advocate. I have no doubt that she made a real difference in this world. I wish I had taken the time to get to know her better. May you rest in peace Danyel.
I would recommend anyone that hasn't read this article to do so.

(Doug) Danyel was the guardian angel for my daughter. I found her through the Inermountain Jewish News. I will be eternally grateful for having found her. She gave freely of her concern for others. I know that if there is such a place as heaven, she is there, looking for others who are in need of her kindness and help. Rest in peace, Danyel.

To All And to Danyel, I am grateful to have had the chance to know Danyel , I wish I had known you even better. I did not know our time would be so limited. We met at Pesach , I think, and you soon became an honored and essential element to that Holy Day. Danyel , you were and are a persistant, uncompromising and gentle model of what it means to be Free. To All- did you know how Danyel worked so hard to over turn the conviction of an innocent man? She set free a slave. How really Kool is that ? "The free soul is rare, but you know it when you see it - basically because you feel good, very good when you are near them."Charles Bukoski Thank you Danyel With love Max and Beth Ann

I remember all the trips in the old 1960 Chevy Pickup truck to and Fort Collins/Colorado State. We would share our hopes and dreams, places we were going to go. Danyel was lucky enough to see most of world, and share it with me as part of the slide show she had put together. I help her put together the musical track for it. I also think of all the M.A.S.H and Pizza study breaks on Monday nights. For what started out as PizzaCo at $3 for a medium pizza and 2 cokes, was a tradition we had for around a decade. After we graduated from CSU, we would go to Godfathers pizza. Godfathers had these pitchers for Coke you could refill for free, so we must have drank half a gallon each. We stopped doing it after Danyel finished law school. I remember the trip from Montrose to move Danyel back to Denver. I drove Danyel's car, and Danyel drove the UHaul. We used walkie-talkies to communicate between the vehicles. The UHaul she rented was having issues but we made it to our planned stop overnight. The Uhaul was looked at the next morning, and we made it back to Denver. My favorite memory was when Danyel was in the process of becoming Danyel. Doug came to Chicago in 2007 for a taping of Wait, Wait dont tell me, since I was working near by I took the 4 days off that Doug had planned. We had fun together, and the last day Doug introduced me to Danyel, and told me she was in the process of changing everything in Doug's life to be Danyel. The last time I saw Danyel was on a business trip to Denver in January and we agreed that I would try and find a job in Denver so we could have dinner at least once a week. I called Doug my friend for 37 years, and Danyel for an additional 10 years. Together (Danyel and Doug) helped me understand some of the things I was going thru, and for 47 years of my life that were made better for knowing them.

While I cannot remember exactly when I met Danyel, it was sometime in 2011 or 2012. Since we have so much in common we became friends and I enjoy spending time with her. She had many issues of her own and yet thrived on helping others. Her work gave her purpose and from our many talks about Spirituality I know her Torah studies and faith kept her going. She understood me and few people in this world can I say that about. She helped me know myself better, too. I will miss her. Blessings on your Journey of Love Danyel!
