Obituary of Iris Orens-Morris
Iris Kalma Smith Orens Morris, 93, New York City and Denver, Colorado, passed away on November 10, 2018 in Denver, Colorado.
Funeral services will be held graveside at Beth Moses Cemetery at Pine Lawn, 1500 Wellwood Avenue, West Babylon, NY on November 13 at 1:30 pm with Rabbi Stacy Offner officiating. Shiva will be held at The Melville Marriott, 1350 Walt Whitman Rd, Melville, NY after the service from 3-7 PM. Shiva will be held at the home of Alice Tariot, 603 Claybourne, Rochester, NY on Thursday, November 15th from 7:00 PM -8:30 PM. A Shiva/Memorial will also be held at Balfour, 1500 Little Raven St., Denver, CO on Monday November 19th at 4 PM.
Eternal Light will be handling the funeral arrangements.
Iris was born in Brooklyn, NY to Evelyn and Abraham Smith on February 24, 1925. She graduated from Erasmus High School in 1941. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Cornell University in 1945 and her M.D. from New York University School of Medicine in 1949. She became a psychiatrist and practiced for nearly 60 years. She was passionate about her work, her children and their ever-enlarging families, traveling and the arts.
Iris is survived by her children Laurie Schual (the late Roger Schual) of Norwalk CT, Alice Tariot (Steven Schwartz) of Rochester NY, Barbara Morris (Philip Zeitler) of Golden CO, Carol Morris (Jeffrey Brenman) of Longmont, CO and Donald Morris (Suzanne Pender) of Brookline, MA. She is also survived by Alice Blatner (wife of the late Mitchell Morris), 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Martin H Orens, husband Robert B Morris, son Mitchell Morris, brother Walter Smith and parents Evelyn and Abraham Smith.
Memorial donations may be made to Cornell University, School of Veterinary Medicine in Ithaca, NY. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Denver Hospice and her caregivers for all their wonderful compassion and concern.
