Obituary of Joseph Steinberg

George Steinberg, born Joseph Steinberg, son of Paul Steinberg and Minnie (Wolen) Steinberg, of blessed memory, died peacefully at the age of 96 in Denver, Colorado on Monday, Dec. 3, 2018 (25 Kislev 5779). Born Dec. 8, 1921 in Newark, New Jersey, George graduated from Weequahic High School and served as a Sargent in the U.S. Army stationed in Kunming, China during WWII. He married Florence Morris of Hillside, New Jersey on April 11, 1950. The couple raised two children, living in first in Irvington and then in Union, New Jersey. George worked in construction with his father before beginning a sales career in the wholesale fabric industry for both the Hennis and Krupnick Brothers companies. He later became a certified gemologist and retired from John DeGeorge Jewelers in Union, NJ. He was active in the leadership of Cub Scout Pack 163, coached Little League and was Worshipful Master of Triluminar Lodge #112 F.andA.M. in 1975. After moving to Denver in 1989, George volunteered at Swedish Medical Center for over 25 years and was Past Commander of the Captain Ellis D. Green Post #244, Jewish War Veterans-USA. George loved people. Children were naturally drawn to him and he was well known throughout his community for his charm and sense of humor. People would often go out of their way to say hello to him. He was devoted to and loved by both his immediate and extended family and adored his many nieces and nephews and their children. George is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Florence and his two children, Carol Wolf of Denver, and Robert (Sarah) Steinberg of Rockville, MD. He is also survived by four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral Service, December 5, 10:30am, Temple Sinai.
