Obituary of Marvin Smith
Marvin (Smitty) Smith husband of Goldie Cohen Smith and father of Sheldon (Lucy) Smith, and Tina Ashburn. He was predeceased by his son, Gary Michael Smith. Smitty was the grandfather of Adam (Liz) Smith, Amanda (Sam) Sells and Lauren (John) Coughlin. His great-grandchildren are Lisa, Alex, Harper, Avery and Asher. Smitty attended Cheltenham Elementary, Lake Junior High School, North High School and Denver University. He served as a US Navy Airman during World War II from 1942-1946.
He and Goldie met is an English class at D.U. Smitty was the founder of Smith, Brooks, Bolshoun, CPA’s and he was a member of the Colorado Society of CPA’s and the American Institute of CPA’s. His me membership in the Colorado Society included Chairman of the Insurance Committee, Chairman of Annual Meetings Committee, Chairman of Insurance Committee and he chaired the Management and publications committee. In 1975 he was elected Director at Large of the Colorado Society of CPA’s.
He was president of Jefferson County CPS’s in 1962, and president of the Alliance Men’s Club 1962-1963. As a member of the Consultation Staff of the American Nursing Home Association, he was a speaker in front of the House Ways and Means Committee in Washington, DC regarding nursing home charges. A member of El Jebel Temple, he spent many Sundays, taking gifts to sick children at Children’s Hospital, dressed in his clown suit. After retiring from his practice, he spent 9.5 years volunteering at the Probate court. He was honored as Hero of the Day by Channel 7 for this service.
A Long-time member of the Hebrew Educational Alliance, he was known as the “Candy Man” as he always had candy for the children. Smitty was an avid Broncos and Rockies fan. He and Goldie were married for almost 72 years, they traveled extensively. He will be missed by family, friends and neighbors. Chapel service 11am, Tuesday at the Hebrew Educational Alliance. Interment in Rose Hill Cemetery. Contributions charity of choice.
