Obituary of David Wofsey
Dave Wofsey, known to Denver area car and truck enthusiasts as "Sparky" for his Sonic Spark Plug invention, passed away in Golden, Colorado, at the age of 95. Dave is survived by his wife Flora, and his children Eden, Tammy and Mike. He was blessed with four grandchildren, Lilly, Willow, Zack and Noa. Dave was an inventor and electronics engineer who was awarded the Purple Martin for his welding and guidance systems inventions while he was employed by Martin Marietta. Dave also worked as a union inspector for Gardner Denver, and finally as CEO of his own company, Denver-based Sonic Spark LLC. Dave was a decorated combat veteran from WWII, who served as a radio operator and gunner in the 11th Armor Division, and fought in Belgium, France and Germany. Dave was also well known in the Denver area for his regular attendance and speeches for Denver mass transit, and he was chair of Citizen’s Rapid Transit Committee. Dave had actively worked on the production line of his spark plug company up until the age of 93 years old, where he manufactured high-performance spark plugs. He actively consulted as scientific counsel in air pollution research until just last year. He was a strong advocate for the protection of natural foods, equal rights for the LGTBQ community, and for deep government investment into STEM training for economically under served schools.
